I try to participate in A Lovely Year of Schnibbles hosted at A Quilting Life and Pink Pincushion. I will admit that last month's project was not completed and I didn't like the fabrics I'd chosen so it was consigned to the bin. Not something I do very often, but this time I decided it was for the best. This month sees us being given a choice of any Camille Roskelly mini quilt. You know how much I like Bonnie & Camille's fabrics. This challenge was calling my name. And Camille has a free pattern for the April Showers mini.
Camille's original mini quilt is 8" by 10" and the stand I use for mini quilts uses a 12" square quilt so I changed it up by adding the month and making each block slightly larger. Camille also used raw edge applique and I buttonhole stitched around all of the appliqued elements. Lorraine was kind enough to let me use some of her Sizzix dies to cut out the letters.
The remains of a fat quarter of the fabric used for the backing was on the top of my pile of fabric that needs to be sorted so I scooped it up. The only fabric for the front of the mini which wasn't from my scrap bags was the spotted fabric behind the lettering and the binding. My scrap bags don't seem to be emptying though.
Tomorrow I'm going to look for some twill tape in my scrapbooking supplies and either stitch or print the word "showers" onto the tape and make the heading into April Showers. I was inspired by Kristyne at Pretty by Hand who uses tape on her zakka projects.
Now I'm sure you'd like to know who won last week's giveaway with Superior Threads. I've never used the random number generator before, so I hope this works. Apparently I need to pay for the random number generator, but the sequence generator is free. So the sequence is as follows and the winner is Number 11.
