I worked on my Folk Art Sampler blocks and made good progress. More on that on Wednesday. I completed the stitching and in a rush to take a photograph I used a spray to help eliminate the folds in the linen. BIG MISTAKE!! Of course, this is a hand dyed linen and is not necessarily colour fast which resulted in a water mark on the right hand side of the piece.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">I have now added a piece of lace to the piece to cover the stain and framed the piece. I have now finished four flower blocks which are from weeks 10 and 18. I know we're only on week 10, but I thought that as these are straight forward blocks, I would stitch them now.<p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4O89Sbboz1ve3a2Y-1F1VmwtYrWXnIM7sSQZf5rFhE1GJP6L287kKYU7kHLlyyghxJtxLs0d5O3Fbe-yy2h__vyCN-GHkwbQ7Y0pa0jntSXMJCNRDqh7bz6bsWUCXwG9SwEwcHcz0aCzfOIsGoT2Nn_SuNN3vi66ELQRG0j4yo2Ij9dbgRTI/s320/IMG_5987.jpeg" width="320" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">I've also cut out two and a half acorn blocks. Why a half? I found that I didn't have enough of the yellow fabric to complete the block. I like this fabric from Winterglow by Ruby Star Society so I have ordered a whole yard.</div><br /><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi57i-2RTM0won-9a0UFxHRuwPz-leeybAinAsbC6vYBlqxRIlzIo2MCjHM3GfpmLEMgqZl-6f1oGZYD6FaQab0bc-Gkw_Sv81V5zOw-90-1mnqlI627_A4faoZ4E715IS_MLbj74IbOZ5bbv_Ywcrm9dOCf24tWgzBwf3EmGrWSF3slZ8zqvk/s320/IMG_7002.jpeg" width="320" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">I will stitch up the two acorn blocks that are cut and then probably move on to the week 8 ducks as they are large blocks. The ducks are 10" finished blocks so less fiddly than the 6" blocks. I should then ut some of the eight bee blocks as when they're complete, with the other blocks stitched so far, they form a borer around the central star block. I can't resist piecing sections together as I make progress.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2833" data-original-width="2123" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQEzGYoOionNHTArAsLqG-bo1VbBrYcy2upfk05UrCGfdncTT73pbaPkcHvy9IWrQd-pFpD7fpCdEojD7bqcVDb2xbKed1dD-EUzCPZfPh3NM3djEsMPOP0YCPuT_7faqBrAX2Eje03kGqkXu__u-iowZXBNKdu4EVljW4-zHQH09BIqDd-sc/w480-h640/IMG_5988.jpeg" width="480" /></div><br />It doesn't look very impressive so far, but I have completed four weeks of the ten released so far. I will be repeating this B block for a friend but planning to sew the A block to swap as it uses straight cut squares.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZhV-mKMJYSX_15o1f2c94xGqIS9FoS8Y9QK8PRE0xeCxQi2jI2LU21moQ1who_m_bi-2j2spLVKQYeSdM6oBjxeSYMZ6e198gbYXNbCJ5aTqDFa7ye1pR9Jx1VMayB8B5h9O7x3CLXr7VU1i-4woSU1ZbOYBlpomvBiZA4j4AdF6cfg0fqIM/s3024/IMG_6989.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZhV-mKMJYSX_15o1f2c94xGqIS9FoS8Y9QK8PRE0xeCxQi2jI2LU21moQ1who_m_bi-2j2spLVKQYeSdM6oBjxeSYMZ6e198gbYXNbCJ5aTqDFa7ye1pR9Jx1VMayB8B5h9O7x3CLXr7VU1i-4woSU1ZbOYBlpomvBiZA4j4AdF6cfg0fqIM/w640-h640/IMG_6989.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div><br /></div>Just Sew Suehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02277518054793564682noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20611675.post-9083881414042467232024-03-04T09:00:00.084+00:002024-03-04T09:16:30.500+00:00Jersey Eisteddfod<p style="text-align: center;"> <img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqWoqBv0iEf_OdqgQh5UN4pBg8DAjXZKaigTFIQfOmGsQ6xYmUSaA49prviPTewcoBQYeuK8i_O36aFOjdLLA6KNowqsz6Oe97MvsYeFvsbRPcVuFqSVoVPLlcOzSYsfo-XJQ8xpZsSm_7ZXt3r0FjfVBnqPlOauXQyxSKKGeuou02n9LKgTo/w480-h640/IMG_6960.jpeg" style="text-align: center;" width="480" /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">I was busy all last week with taking in 660+ Needlework and Textile Art pieces for our section of the Festival of Creative Arts. The last quilt of three is now ready for collection. I am a little disappointed that I haven't mounted the piece yet, but my husband has sanded the sentiment off this square board from a charity shop, ready for me to paint it. I think he's done a great job and it doesn't need dry brushing which was my plan, so I just need to finish this and two other Valentine projects in the next two days.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiivyXDNjcfVnOCHpcdAtlkfs7CfiWn7Xsze2-8IcYDj4l7LheC_ENWoo-3PmU3SOAXiH9eQdqt93REatHuT3lX4Kzotg08FXb_qQ6LTj87iWPXZjvd688DvQuLlw5yvO5F79DPchxLdViLWsir739ycrVovsRqEBbWisqM50t7gjDbZComoy4/w640-h640/IMG_5968.jpeg" width="640" /></div><br /><p><br /></p>Just Sew Suehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02277518054793564682noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20611675.post-57727917657561871622024-02-09T09:00:00.006+00:002024-02-09T09:00:00.134+00:00Friday finish - boxy clear pouch<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaPZqO_knLFb5-mzSumMr01AjtSXWm9XrC5D7eMK7L3QuPxK0rlz4fRGxFO4SR22S4pQxAvLkBjrkJO2UQt6ocOQf2f9pGrrrLeVaQQbEJ-ltvO9m6R9-v-b0f_b8mf5v92LyyfXa4BhEneY41KLs6kuIfzv67W-_iH6nfsbmxe21JRds_mtI/s4032/IMG_6910.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaPZqO_knLFb5-mzSumMr01AjtSXWm9XrC5D7eMK7L3QuPxK0rlz4fRGxFO4SR22S4pQxAvLkBjrkJO2UQt6ocOQf2f9pGrrrLeVaQQbEJ-ltvO9m6R9-v-b0f_b8mf5v92LyyfXa4BhEneY41KLs6kuIfzv67W-_iH6nfsbmxe21JRds_mtI/w640-h480/IMG_6910.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div>This is a boxy clear pouch by <a href="https://aneelahoey.com/b/boxy-clear-pouch" target="_blank">Aneela Hoey</a> which I made at our retreat last week, apart from hand sewing the binding on one side of each end. <div><br /></div><div>I chose rainbow fabrics for a Women's Institute team competition. It can now also be purchased from the designer's Etsy shop as a PDF. The suggested thread wasn't available, so I chose Priscilla's Peppermint as three skeins are needed and I already had one skein. I am once again diving into my Ruby Star Society stash. I am all set to take this to my local retreat on Friday. Looking at the blocks, they are all quite fiddly with small pieces. The centre star is 18” square for comparison. I must also pack my design boards to coracle the pieces for each block.<br /><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiMvqg8LqJV5xT7Otpr2ER42lhIK0r4VHM9XiN0mPFab9JpewXWNSpatttC5G1Mf4prX4nSA70ipam8b9iKUCjoLfJ3qdRy4iurQoNM2gTZwTAP8I5XC5g2_iw4bK9ldfEKsCSwkCJaKp_nrdh7B4MNIsDHWuXi6r9TWl-xRutOP3jKxHLX0E/s3024/CE26425E-0E78-4A34-A515-6A3E082A22D0.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiMvqg8LqJV5xT7Otpr2ER42lhIK0r4VHM9XiN0mPFab9JpewXWNSpatttC5G1Mf4prX4nSA70ipam8b9iKUCjoLfJ3qdRy4iurQoNM2gTZwTAP8I5XC5g2_iw4bK9ldfEKsCSwkCJaKp_nrdh7B4MNIsDHWuXi6r9TWl-xRutOP3jKxHLX0E/w400-h400/CE26425E-0E78-4A34-A515-6A3E082A22D0.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div><br />Just Sew Suehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02277518054793564682noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20611675.post-74058077741916034422024-01-26T09:00:00.001+00:002024-01-26T09:00:00.133+00:00Friday finish - partly<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjW44mK5OOEYL3u_Mnv1mY1WLhwh1n4yagc2ppyyC1nW_-NoPv8JapQt4L2nMqZCDFcPvJl_mO3GeZMo4N1nIvrS96lfJu3mqZc_OALMBzk45m3qHRkOtnvkc9qjnyzet6c5k-X_CZTypgqn-PEqn2oGwUDWqCwaMjY4LnEvEJZcJyfIlq8jto/s3024/IMG_5957.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjW44mK5OOEYL3u_Mnv1mY1WLhwh1n4yagc2ppyyC1nW_-NoPv8JapQt4L2nMqZCDFcPvJl_mO3GeZMo4N1nIvrS96lfJu3mqZc_OALMBzk45m3qHRkOtnvkc9qjnyzet6c5k-X_CZTypgqn-PEqn2oGwUDWqCwaMjY4LnEvEJZcJyfIlq8jto/w640-h640/IMG_5957.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><p><br /></p><div style="text-align: justify;">Hopefully you can see that this is a pig and not a camel as suggested by my husband! This is for a surprise quilt which I have been asked to contribute to. This is the first time I have incorporated a selvedge in a block and I like how it turned out. I adapted a Lori Holt pattern to reduce the amount of background in the block. I haven’t added an eye as that might get in the way when the quilt is being quilted.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">It’s now ready to post when I am in London on Tuesday, though time is going to be tight as there is a train strike so I am going to my appointment by taxi. It's a one-day event with four activities:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">Hand stitched EPP hexagons - I have 240 paper hexagons and fabric cut and ready for Ros. I was fortunate that a friend is often given hexagons that people no longer want so the fabric was already cut, but most of the fabric is very retro!!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">Bowl cosy - 19 pairs of 10" squares ready for the teacher, who bailed on me this week and can only do two hours and not the whole event. Thanks!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">Scrap block - I have redrafted a hand written block and cutting diagram, printed it and laminated it. I'm also taking all of my scraps for people to use and hopefully reduce my scraps.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">Double rings block which I'm teaching and my sample is ready with the rulers. I just need to double check I have everything.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">Then on Friday I need to collect the hall keys and load my car with all of the above, fabric, cutting mats, rulers, ironing board etc. I am looking forward to Sunday!!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">In ten days we have our local retreat, so I have started to plan what I'm taking with me. First, I need to make the first four blocks for the Folk Sampler which I am going to make from my stash of Ruby Star Society fabrics. The instructions are printed ready to start cutting and sewing. I plan to start with these blocks on the Friday. I hate being behind on a sewalong. I also need to pack my design boards to help me organise my blocks as there are multiple blocks each week if you want to do the 26 week and not the 52 week schedule.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2967" data-original-width="4031" height="472" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinUHFj6sXe6Nyr_kMB2tc4pbKI3TWYE4IhWZi7lry69FJLqINYrh86KF5-mSRzhjiPkGXKZMXRoFxlHRN8GgrUbkQIeK5esLtrnKwn_O0EkPWggOp0zF_BUwDoj5ZMT5HEX57K3zozuTzj24uWhfr6LRnEm89CZSgPGMHdlCwPDQJD6xlVPcY/w640-h472/IMG_5953.jpeg" width="640" /></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">On the Saturday I'm all set to sew the<a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/1633807560/sewjo-banner-pdf-pattern" target="_blank"> sewjo banner by Happy Sew Lucky</a>. I even have some silver linen for the needle picked out and a jumbo knitting needle to hang the banner from.
